My freshmen activities at Uni as a new student sucked. The school didn't have that much of an academic spirit back then, as the freshmen traditions lacked creativity. So on one afternoon, the seniors got into our room, called us "Pipos and Joanas" (the names of the main characters of a teens soap opera that was big at the time), took us to another room, made us make silly things like taking a vinegar bath, and we went home. Yes, I had fun... I had my friends there, and I gained an excellent academic senior Godmother who also came from the same high school as me, but that was it. A silly afternoon.
Then, the Boulogne process came along, and my course got reduced to three years in which six months I spent in Switzerland on an exchange program (it was the best part of being at the University for me back then).
So when people ask me about college, I don't really know where to begin, since it went by so fast.
It was only when the ISCTE Business School reached me this September to make the film of their Freshmen Weekend that I learned how times have changed since I went to college. What a great weekend those kids had! If I could have chosen, I wished my first experiences at the Uni were like this.
Thank you, ISCTE, for choosing me to tell this story, and for making me believe in the academic spirit again. I hope to have showed the world the feeling of union and fun you have, just like you showed me. (I even feel like I finally had my freshmen welcoming!)
